QUEEN ELIZABETH II PLATINUM JUBILEE - JOIN IN THE VILLAGE CELEBRATIONS

Queen Elizabeth II

In February 2022, Her Majesty the Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 when she was 25 years old. To mark this exciting milestone the Nation will come together over a four-day Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate the Queen's 70-year reign.

Here in East Peckham a number of events are taking place and all residents are invited by the Parish Council to join in the festivities, taking place over the Jubilee weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June.

In this leaflet you will find details of the numerous events, but whatever you do for the Jubilee weekend we'd love to hear about it! Let us know your plans and send us a photo and we'll keep a record for the future.

Kind regards
Chairman, Councillors & Clerks
East Peckham Parish Council

Lighting The Beacon - Thursday 2nd June

Jubilee Beacon

Join us at St Michaels' Church, at Royden, to watch the beacon being lit as part of an international celebration. Please arrive before 8.15pm, as at 8.40pm there will be either a live bugle recital of 'Majesty' (composed by Sgt. Andrew Carlisle for the Queen's jubilee beacon lighting) or a recorded version. At 8.45 pm the beacon will be lit, one of more than 1500 to be lit across the country and the Commonwealth.

The Queen's Green Canopy - "Plant a Tree for Jubilee"

The Parish Council will be planting trees as part of the Queen's Green Canopy project. You can get involved in this too - plant a tree at home or encourage your community group or work place to take part. For more information visit https://www.queensgreencanopy.org

Jubilee Fete - Friday 3rd June

Join us at the East Peckham Jubilee Fete on Friday 3rd June on the Jubilee Playing Field from 12.15pm - 5.00pm. A procession will commence from the village centre at 12.00pm, and we would like as many residents as possible, young and old, to join in the procession. It would be great if people could dress as royalty, and prizes will be given to the best fancy dress for children and adults. In the procession we would also like to see the children riding cycles, scooters, pedal or battery powered cars, with everything suitably decorated for the occasion.

Jubilee Fete

Bring your own picnic, blankets and chairs and we'll provide the entertainment.

• Live acts performing throughout the day
• Refreshments stalls including a traditional 'Tea Tent', coffee stand and hot food
• Ice cream van, craft stalls and beer tent
• Royal scarecrow competition.
• Falcons, magician, vintage vehicles and much more!

Updates will be released nearer the time - we look forward to seeing you there!

The Big Jubilee Lunch - 4th & 5th June

Why not host your own street party over the bank holiday weekend, or as part of The Big Jubilee Lunch on 4th & 5th June. If you need to close the road to hold your street party you will need to apply for a road closure notice from Kent County Council. Please note applications must be submitted before the end of March.
For more information about how to arrange a street party for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee visit the Kent County Council website at https://www.kent.gov.uk

Street Party

Scarecrow Competition

There will be a competition open to all residents to find the best garden scarecrow, linked to the theme of 'The Queen's Platinum Jubilee'. Get in-touch with your creative side, build a scarecrow and dress it as your favourite royal personality. Put it up in your garden where it can be seen by our judges, and make sure it's in-place by 28th May.
