West Kent Mediation

Some good news to share!

West Kent Mediation are this year celebrating 25 years of providing a confidential, impartial mediation service to every resident in West Kent!

We are immensely proud that we have kept the service going through some incredibly challenging years and feel also very lucky to have such a dedicated team of mediators. We are a volunteer-led organisation with our team of fully trained local mediators conducting all the mediation work we undertake, thereby saving precious time and funds for a variety of public services, e.g. police/housing officers/social services.

The past two years of the pandemic has, however, sadly shown that the need for a free mediation service has never been greater. The effects of conflict and disagreement on the people involved (both in the community and within families) can be quite overwhelming, causing anxiety, depression and even in some cases, homelessness. We continue to work in partnership with many local statutory and voluntary organisations, and are receiving an increased number of referrals from these sources. We have invested in upgrading our website and our social media activity, and have also seen an increase in self-referrals from these

2020 and 2021 have been a time of change as our working practices have been necessarily changed due to Covid. We are now beginning to make face to face visits again which have been welcomed by our service users, although the use of Zoom continues in situations where it has not been physically possible to meet in person. Earlier this year we provided an online training to our volunteers on the zoom process which was both helpful and informative.

We are always extremely appreciative of any donations received and are incredibly grateful for all the support we received last year. This year we have invested in upgrading our computer & telephone systems enabling us to keep our carbon footprint down and work remotely when possible. We do still rely on funding to support our service and would be very grateful for any donation your parish council may be able to make to our charity to help us continue to provide our much-needed service to the local community of West Kent.
